Banana Blossom Burger Recipe – Crispy, Plant-Based, and Full of Flavor

brownceylonesefoodjournal, July 23, 2025July 23, 2025

If you’re looking for a healthy, plant-based burger that’s meaty, crunchy, and 100% vegan, this banana blossom burger is exactly what you need.

Made using crispy banana blossom fritters, stacked with fresh veggies, and slathered in a simple vegan sauce, this is one of the easiest and tastiest ways to enjoy banana blossom (banana flower). It’s a crowd-pleasing meatless burger recipe that comes together with no fake meats or complicated prep—just real ingredients and bold flavour.

Best of all, this burger works great for weeknight meals, summer BBQs, and even party sliders when served on mini brioche buns!

What Is Banana Blossom?

Banana blossom (or banana flower) is the purple, teardrop-shaped flower that grows at the end of a banana cluster. It’s commonly used in South Asian cooking and is known for its meaty texture and mild flavor, making it an excellent meat alternative for vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Why You’ll Love This Banana Blossom Burger

  • Crispy texture from the fritters
  • No blender needed – quick & easy
  • Vegan & dairy-free
  • Full of plant-based protein and fiber
  • Great as burgers or party-sized sliders

Banana Blossom Burger Recipe (Sri Lankan-Inspired)

Prep Time: 30 minutes (if fritters are pre-made)
Yield: 10 full-size burgers or 10 – 20 sliders

Ingredients

For the Burger:

  • 20 banana blossom fritters – 1 or 2 per burger (get the fritter recipe here)
  • 10 burger buns – or use 20 mini brioche buns for sliders
  • 10 large lettuce leaves
  • 10 – 20 tomato slices
  • 10 – 20 red onion slices
  • 10 – 20 cucumber slices
  • 10 – 20 cheese slices (optional – use vegan cheese to keep it plant-based)

For the Sauce:

  • 10 tablespoons mayonnaise (vegan mayo if preferred)
  • 10 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 -4 tablespoons hot sauce (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce
In a bowl, mix mayonnaise and ketchup. Adjust the heat by mixing hot sauce if preferred.
  2. Assemble the burger
    • Spread sauce on both halves of the bun.
    • Add lettuce, tomato, onion, and cucumber.
    • Place 1–2 banana blossom fritters on top.
    • Add cheese if using.
    • Top with the other bun and serve.
  3. Optional: Serve as sliders
Use mini buns and one fritter each to turn this into vegan finger food or a party appetizer.

Tips & Variations

  • Toast the bun for that extra crispness.
  • Use double fritters for a hearty, double-decker burger
  • Add plant-based cheese for extra creaminess
  • Swap the sauce with vegan sriracha mayo or avocado mash
  • Serve with fries, sweet potato wedges, or a fresh green salad
  • Reheat fritters in the oven for extra crispiness if made ahead

Why Banana Blossom Is Perfect for Vegan Burgers

Banana blossom is:

  • High in fiber, which supports digestion
  • A natural source of plant-based protein
  • Rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron
  • Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties

Unlike some store-bought patties, it’s whole, clean, and unprocessed—perfect for mindful eating.

Make It a Meal or a Party Platter

Hosting guests? These burgers make fantastic finger food when made into sliders with mini brioche buns. Just prep your fritters ahead of time, toast the buns, and lay out toppings and sauces for a DIY burger station.

Final Thoughts

This crispy banana blossom burger is more than just a meatless alternative—it’s a flavor-packed, plant-based recipe that satisfies your burger cravings without compromising your health goals. Whether you’re trying vegan recipes, celebrating Meatless Monday, or looking for something fun and Sri Lankan-inspired, this burger deserves a spot on your menu.
